John McNair, President

John has been in renewables since 2008, as a Director with Hill Country Wind Power, a utility scale wind project developer, as well as, a founding Partner at Clean Power Texas, a utility scale solar project developer. John has managed the lease-up of 250,000+ acres in ERCOT for renewable energy projects over his career.

A seasoned renewable energy project developer and licensed Texas real estate broker, John has taken greenfield projects through the development process to COD, while engaging with a wide range of stakeholders. Since 2008, John’s leasing efforts have led to the development of 1.2+ GW of wind, 1.6+ GW of solar, and 1.8+ GW of energy storage in ERCOT. An experienced project originator, John developed a portfolio of renewable projects using GIS data combined with building personal relationships. Major developers have turned to John’s expertise when a crisis arises – from last minute estoppels holding up a financial close to access issues, turning radius easements and lease amendments with challenging landowners. 

John’s experience includes project management, strategy, market analysis, M&A due diligence, GIS, permitting, land entitlements, project siting, interconnection and transmission, as well as coordinating all site-related development tasks, and maintaining stakeholder relations throughout the development process. John is a licensed property tax consultant in Texas and can advise on Chapter 312 tax abatements for renewable energy projects. 

John is a hands-on 6th generation Texas ranch owner/ operator, and received the Family Land Heritage Award from the Texas Department of Agriculture. John earned a BBA from the University of North Texas and operates a land brokerage, based in San Antonio, TX.
